STEWARDSHIP

at the First Baptist Church of Mount Olive

Mount Olive, NC

FOR THIS FAITH COMMUNITY, IT'S ABOUT BEING GOOD STEWARDS OF GOD'S CREATION

The First Baptist Church of Mount Olive would describe their story as: “how one small town church avoided a financial downturn post-Recession, by simply being a good steward of the assets with which God had blessed it.” In 2002, a generous congregational member gave the church 130 acres.  Several years later in the midst of the Great Recession, Birdseye Renewable Energy contacted the church to lease 36 of the 130 acres for a solar farm. For First Baptist Church of Mount Olive, this opportunity was a god send.  Having a solar facility is an 833 percent increase over farm rent.  The church gained the financial means necessary to continue their mission while being good stewards of the land.

We understand that sustainable energy is
the way of the future."

Angelo San Fratello, Trustee

"We’re glad that we held on to it [the land housing the solar farm] because it will continue to reap revenue for years to come that will enable us to give back to the community and minister to people in our community"

Dennis Atwood, Pastor
